Is the Poly B in my home likely to deteriorate and fail?

Because homes that were built using Poly B plumbing are now 30-40 years old, these pipes have well outlived their life expectancy. The chemicals used in our water supply are proven to deteriorate Poly B over time so it’s litterally not a matter of if, but when. For this reason many insurance companies will not issue new policies on homes that contain Poly B plumbing. Furthermore, many insurance companies are now cancelling and/or not renewing policies for current clients that have Poly B plumbing in their homes.

Can I get home insurance if I have polybutylene (Poly B) pipes in my home?

Many insurance companies view Poly B plumbing as a high-risk material due to its history of leaks and failures. Because of this, several insurers will not issue new policies on homes that still contain Poly B piping. In addition, more insurance providers are now choosing to cancel or not renew existing policies for homeowners with Poly B plumbing.
If you’re planning to renew, switch insurers, or sell your home, replacing Poly B is often necessary to maintain coverage and avoid future complications.
